A CONDUIT FOR SOCIAL CHANGE

Museo de las Americas is a community museum based in Denver, CO that was founded in 1991. Museo specializes in Latino art presenting 3 exhibits a year that feature local and international Latino artists.  Museo also provides arts-integrated programming for children and adults that challenge perspectives, promotes artistic expression and acceptance of cultural diversity, fosters a positive self-identity and enhances academic achievement.  We recently celebrated our 25th anniversary of serving the community and we are looking forward to another 25!

They applied for their 2017 Las Adas project which is a fusion of art and society that demonstrates how art can be a conduit for social change. As such, this project consists of an art exhibit, to open in the fall of 2017, and educational programming to be held throughout the year.  The Las Adas exhibit will feature the works of 6 female artists who have lived and worked in Denver for the past 30 years and have made significant contributions towards the empowerment of indigenous women and women of color. The exhibit will consist of art installations, mixed media pieces, and a very special original artwork created specifically for the exhibit by the artists. In partnership with the Colorado Coalition against Domestic Violence, Museo’s art exhibit will be supplemented by a series of education workshops that will engage the new generation of museum goers and spark important dialogues about the social inequalities and the prevalence of domestic violence experienced by women of all ages and backgrounds.
