ARTS AND AUTISM

Sensory Friendly Symbolheader_logoVSA, OHIO lead by  Executive Director, Erin J. Hoppe, will be hosting an  Arts and Autism Conference: Creating, Learning, Living at the Columbus Museum of Art on September 20th. It is estimated that there are over 60,000 individuals living with Autism in Ohio and this makes it the fastest growing developmental disability.  This full day conference features practice, presentation and research in the arts and autism.  The purpose of this second annual conference is to bring together individuals with autism and their families, practitioners, support professionals, researchers, therapists and advocates who specialize or have an interest in the intersection of arts and autism in order to fundamentally change the landscape of accessible arts in our State and society.  (FYI, PFW has worked with the Children Theatre  in Columbus Ohio who brought sensory friendly theatre to autistic children and their families and,  we  also ask you to read our blog about the project we are working with through a grant we gave to Helping Hands, which you will find interesting).   For more information on this great Conference that will included CCAD’s new  President, a gallery owner promoting outsider artwork, an individual with Asperger’s syndrome making a career as an artist, a clinical psychologist and a national award winning artist go to www.vsao.org
