Columbus Dance Theatre “Courage”

The Courage concert was an original, evening length work that confronted what it meant to speak the truth even in the face of adversity and great personal cost. The evening featured original choreography by CDT Artistic Director Tim Veach, dancers from the Company of Columbus Dance Theatre, video design by local videographer John Ray, an original score by Columbus based composer Korine Fujiwara, and live music by the Carpe Diem String Quartet. Courage incorporated Ms. Fujiwara’s original score as an interactive device for the musicians who were present on stage as a part of the dance throughout the evening. The themes of Courage were given their own voices in the music. How an individual finds personal strength to confront and defend “truth” was revealed through music, dance, and projected text. The dance and score made reference to the number seven – inspired by the seven chakras of the body. Both the power and vulnerability of each of these “body” centers will serve as inspiration as the performers confront facing one’s own truth in the face of what can be seen as non-truth. It is with great hope that this integrated piece of art will travel throughout Ohio. For more information visit: www.coldancetheatre.org
