MAKE ART NOT WAR

Governor Names May 18th Arts Day in Ohio

As  you all may know PuffinFoundation West has for years been a sponsor that brings High School Students from across the State to Columbus on May 18th to LOBBY THEIR REPRESENTATIVES to continue supporting and funding the Arts in their school districts and in schools across  the State of Ohio.  It is one of our favorite and continuing grants.  The Arts bring over 31 Billion dollars in revenue to Ohio and what the State gives back  to groups like Ohio Citizens for the Arts, Ohio Council for the Arts and etc. is a paltry percentage  of that figure.   We are reminded  of the great expression “MAKE  ART NO WAR!

“Gov. John Kaisch and Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor issued a resolution yesterday naming May 18th “Arts Day” throughout Ohio. The resolution recognizes the unique role the arts play in our lives by enhancing and enriching the human experience. It also acknowledges the importance of arts education and the major role the creative industries play in Ohio’s economy.

Arts advocates across the state are urged to spread the word and encourage your family, friends and neighbors to celebrate and support the arts in our state. A copy of the resolution is available here.

Hundreds of arts advocates will celebrate Arts Day on May 18th by visiting their legislators at the Ohio Statehouse and attending the Governor’s Awards for the Arts luncheon. The day will begin with a fun and exciting Kick-off Event in Studio One at the Riffe Center for Government and the Arts in Columbus. Larry Smith, founder of the Six-Word Memoir Project, will lead attendees in the creation of personal memoirs in response to the question, “Why do you love the arts?” The Arts Day Kick-off Event is free and open to the public.

If you and others in your community would like to participate in the Six-Word Memoir Project, just download the form, here, and complete your six-word response to the question. When you’re done, take a photo of yourself and your Six-Word Memoir, post it on your Facebook page or Twitter (@OCA_Ohio), and tag Ohio Citizens for the Arts. #OHArtsDay16″
