POWER2GIVE AND COLUMBUS DANCE THEATRE

Support the Boys Scholarship Program at Columbus Dance Theatre

ITP+Boys+Class

About the Project

In an effort to encourage the development of men in dance, CDT offers full or partial scholarship classes to young men and boys in Central Ohio. Classes are taught by either Company or Apprentice men, or the Artistic Director. Classes consist of ballet, fitness training, modern dance, jazz, partnering, and repertoire. Scholarship availability is based on a scale of support calculated on a family’s gross annual income.
“When I was trying to think of under-represented populations in ballet as a part of our outreach efforts the first thing that came to mind were men, particularly men and boys from challenged economic circumstances,” says CDT Artistic Director Tim Veach.
Columbus Dance Theatre has established what is arguably the most successful incentive program for boys studying ballet in the state of Ohio. With dozens of boys participating in the program and a proven track record of success CDT is now producing young men of national caliber born out of its commitment to the Boys Scholarship Program. Begun in the fall of 2007, this program provides full or partial scholarships to boys based on family income. Boys are taught by CDT Artistic Director Tim Veach and male teachers from CDT’s professional Company. Boys from the CDT program are now dancing professionally and have gone on to receive tens of thousands of dollars of scholarship support from such institutions as: The Juilliard School, American Ballet Theatre, The School of American Ballet, The Joffrey Ballet, Houston Ballet, Interlochen, LINES Ballet, North Carolina Dance Theatre, The University of Illinois, SUNY Purchase and others. Boys from Columbus Dance Theatre have held positions in a range of Companies including: Nashville Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem, and Louisville Ballet among others. judson.jpgCDT currently waives some $25,000 annually to boys participating in the School through the Boys Scholarship Program.1465493706008
