When Mission Statements Align Perfectly…

Gateway Film Center Mission Statement:
To strengthen and unite Ohio communities by playing, promoting and producing cinema-arts experiences that inspire people to see one another and the world in new ways.

Puffin Foundation West Mission Statement:
Puffin Foundation West seeks to open the door of artistic expression by providing grants to artist activists and arts organizations often excluded from mainstream opportunities due to race, gender, or social philosophy.

In 2016, look for a strengthened collaboration between Puffin Foundation West and Gateway Film Center. This collaboration will continue to present fabulous feature films, non-violent cartoons, and new thought-provoking onscreen exhibits through events such as these:

Sixth Annual From Book to Film
Each summer, in partnership with the Columbus Metropolitan Library, the Gateway Film Center presents a different movie inspired by a great book every week, all summer long. It encourages conversation, literacy and awareness of important books. Admission is FREE with any library card. In 2015 From Book to Film took place from May 22-July 31. During this time Gateway Film Center screened 11 films with a total of 2,848 guests in attendance. With generous support from Puffin Foundation West, Ltd this was the most successful From Book to Film to date.

Picture Peace On-Screen Exhibit
The onscreen exhibit of images from “Picture Peace” is a partnership between Puffin Foundation West  and Ohio Coalition against Gun Violence, and Gateway Film Center  The onscreen exhibit will be on Gateway Film Center movie screens preceding all From Book to Film presentations.

Documentary Week 9 and 10
Today, the Gateway Film Center’s two-part Documentary Week program collects world-class content and connects moviegoers and advocacy groups with filmmakers. It is a national celebration of documentary films, their filmmakers, and the audiences who come to learn about the world around them. As one of the finest collections of does anywhere, Columbus Documentary Week is often a bellwether for the Academy Awards, regularly screening all best documentary nominees before they are announced. Many are premieres, and nearly all would never reach Central Ohio without Gateway Film Center.

In 2015, the purchase of a 30’ blow-up outdoor screen, with assistance from Puffin Foundation West, allowed local communities and neighborhoods the ability to afford hosting events to enjoy such films as Mean Girls, Babe, Poltergeist, Wizard of Oz, and more, along with a collection of non-violent cartoons for kids, curated by the Film Council of Greater Columbus. There were 15 screenings in 2015 in unique places such as the Topiary Park, Columbus Arts Festival, and Comfest. Keep this space bookmarked as well as PuffinFilm.org for upcoming information on scheduling.
