This year we worked with them to continue to bring Artists In The Classroom of Olde Orchard Elementary School. This school works with children having learning and emotional difficulties. Well over 100 children will experience artists up close and personal Sogbety Diomande is a performance drummer and will bring song and dance from the Ivory Coast and Annette Jefferson, is an historical storyteller and uses the history of famous African Americans to tell her stories. Both of these programs will be given during black history month. We have also granted OAAE so that Transit Arts’ Art in the House can continue their FREE 90 minute weekly dance workshops for children aged 5-11 at Central Community House in Columbus, OH. This Mini Hip-Hop is open to students from any school or neighborhood every Monday evening. It is an out of school time program, that works to close the gaps in services, bringing arts and cultural programs into a network of opportunities accessible to all residents, particularly K-12 in neighborhoods facing the toughest social, economic, and public safety challenges. Transit Arts youth work as paid apprentice teaching artists for those classes assisting the professional dance instructors. There are also Open-Mic events. The grant will help them to offer this program without interruption throughout the entire calendar year.
