THE ISLAND PRESIDENT Film Directed by Jon Shenk

From Variety:  Review by Peter Debruge

“In the face of rising sea levels, the Maldive Islands are the Alamo, and environmental crusader Mohamed Nasheed is their Davy Crockett. Boasting astonishing access, director Jon Shenk’s “The Island President” documents a brave battle against overwhelming odds. If the endangered archipelago can just keep its head above water long enough to be heard, the charismatic leader hopes to save the lowest country on earth. Should he fail, this inspiring big-issue docu virtually ensures “Remember the Maldives!” will become a rallying cry in the fight against global warming.”

Puffin West is very humbled to be associated with the premier of this film in Ohio at the Wexner Center. Director Jon Shenk is a nephew of Joyce and Chuck Shenk who have been, from the beginnng, two of  the most generous supporters of the Wexner Center for the Arts.  The film will be shown Saturday May  19th at 7P wth Q&A with the Director following the film and also on Sunday afternoon.

Most recently President Nasheed has been deposed by his military and he and his former officials are under the threat of great peril.  Please visit 360.org, Bill McKibben’s (former Puffin Foundation Creative Citizen award winner) web site for more information and to sign the petition to safeguard this environmental hero!
