WHITE WOMAN IN PROGRESS

7 STAGES THEATRE (7S), which is in their 39th Season has partnered with Atlanta’s The Center for Civil and Human Rights, to develop and premier Tara Och’s one-woman show, WHITE WOMAN IN PROGRESS running March 17-April 2nd in Atlanta, Georgia.   White Woman in Progress explores the story of Viola Liuzzo, a martyr of the civil rights movement whom Och’s portrayed in the 2014 film “Selma“. The filming experience caused Ochs to radically reimagine her responsibilities as an artist, citizen and white woman in America today, and thus seek opportunities to enact positive change through racial equality in her hometown. The play parallels Och’s journey to find progressive, responsible action to confront out culture’s current climate of racial tension, violence and inequality – with Viola’s story: a mother to five children, murdered by the KKK in 1965 while driving protestors home near Selma. Through an exploration of Viola’s awakening to a deeper understanding of the privileges endowed upon her by society, and thus an increase in her commitment and courage to step out of her comfort zone and join the civil rights movement, Och’s seeks to inspire in our community a similar urge for self-awareness. www.7stages.org  7StagesTheatre-Logo3-trans
