A 75 years commemoration of Hiroshima/Nagasaki will again be held in Central Columbus between August 6-9. A concert is planned which gain feature Columbus composer Rocco DiPietro’s composition whose pieces reflect the isolation and loneliness that overcome people when they discuss nuclear war and a strong hope for world peace in one’s heart. Our grant will help mobilize people to attend this Commemoration Concert at the Ohio State Workforce Boardroom. Guests will include persons who have firsthand experiences and have been impacted by the preparation for war to further gather a strong voice for peace and justice in Central Ohio. All will be invited to share their reflections and dedications to a future free of the threats of war and to console the spirits of those killed by the atomic bomb and also to pray for lasting world peace.
A moment of silence will be observed remembering the 140,000 irreplaceable human lives that were lost, either on the day of the bombing or in the ensuing months, and the numerous atomic bomb survivors who still suffer from its aftereffects even to this day, All will be left with a strong sense of the horrors of nuclear war.
