A Grant has been awarded to artists Gail Rosenbloom Kaplan and Dani Kasir who will be working with adolescent children aged 5-16 who are infected with and affected by HIV/ADS at Project Challenge Winter Camp in Detroit. The children will be taught the technical and aesthetic skills needed to work with glass mosaics and mirrors so that they are able to express themselves both emotionally and creatively as they design and make not only their own mirrors but also work on a larger mosaic mural, which will be mounted on the wall of the clinic they visit weekly. They will each be taking home their individual artwork that will be a source of accomplishment and pride for years to come. Art participation increases confidence and self-efficacy and helps encourage young people to be able to think, learn and make lifestyle choices that promote their sense of well being.
