Objact Description
The North Carolina Symphony (NCS) was granted for their support of digital music education experiences for children as well as curriculum development, resources, and support for music education teachers across the state of North Carolina. This funding was used specifically to support the North Carolina Symphony’s annual Teacher Workshop held in the fall of 2023 and digital curriculum development including the Online Resources for Educators section of the NCS website.
Project Description
Committed to engaging students of all ages across North Carolina, NCS leads one of the most extensive education programs of any symphony orchestra in the country- serving over 100,000 students each year. In alignment with the curriculum set by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, the Symphony provides training and resources for teachers, sends small ensembles into classrooms, and presents full orchestra in-person and online Education Concerts that bring the fundamentals of music to life. Music Discovery for preschoolers combines music with storytelling, and at the middle and high school levels, students have opportunities to work directly with NCS artists and perform for NCS audiences. Since its first education concert in 1946, NCS has performed for more than three million students across the state.
The North Carolina Symphony’s curriculum-based music education programs are accompanied by lesson plans. These lessons are created each year by the North Carolina Symphony Director of Education with music teachers from across the state and the NC Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI). They are based on North Carolina’s Essential Standards and are approved by NCDPI,
Each fall, teachers from across the state are invited to attend a training workshop where fellow teachers present their lesson plans. The workshop takes place at the North Carolina Museum of Art. To reach teachers who may not be able to attend the live workshop, the entire training course is also available online. The workshop assists teachers in preparing their students to enjoy the streaming Concert Series from the comfort of their home! On the date of each streaming concert release, you will receive an email with a link to the concert. These are virtual programs we are supporting Each performance is available for on-demand streaming for 20 days. We have continued our granting to the NCSO as it helps to bring the joy and educational benefits of music to nearly 100,000 students, teachers, and parents through their renowned education programs throughout the state.
