Summer Jam West is a grassroots festival held annually in Westgate Park, Columbus, OH. Their Mission is to bring neighborhoods together through joy, music and art and to raise awareness on environmental and humanitarian concerns. In achieving these goals Summer Jam West use local, buy local and promote local. They are a tour de force art movement on the Hilltop, a movement for the common good, believing that everyone, regardless of income is entitled to art. With the Hilltop being a cultural wasteland in the city of Columbus, their commitment to the Hilltop community is to install one major piece of public art each year. To date they have installed The Children’s Mural (Aaron Grover), On the Wings of Change (Rachel Pace), the Fantastic Food Garden (Danielle Poling) and Azcend (Brian Marcus). The mural to be unveiled this year will be 90 feet long and 13 feet high with a theme of moving and grooving as conceived and painted by Roger Williams a great friend of Puffin Foundation West’s. Last year over 4000 neighbors attended. There will be an array of food rucks with varying ethnic cuisine, 5 local bands of different genre, 12 local artist and 30 craft artisans. There will be free face painting, free balloon twisting and a free art zone for the kids. Summer jam is scheduled for July 8th, 2017. summerjamwest.org
