Final Report for the 2023 Donation from the Puffin Foundation
The UNC Health Foundation received two donations from the Puffin Foundation. The first gift was for $200,000 and was received on 3/29/23. The second gift was for $50,000 and was received on 5/31/23. Both gifts were given to UNC Health Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC in honor of Dr. Lee Jobe.

Actual Number of Virtual or In-Person Participants: UNC Rex has more than 1100 physicians and 1700 nurses and treats more than 34,000 inpatients annually. UNC Rex has earned local and national accolades and is proud to be Wake County’s most preferred hospital. UNC Rex is one of only 18 hospitals nationwide, and the only one in North Carolina, to receive straight “A” grades since the Leapfrog Group began hospital safety report cards in 2012. The trust, support, and generosity of members of the community such as the Puffin Foundation continue to propel the UNC Rex commitment to Excellence in health care.

How the funds made an impact at Rex:
The donation from the Puffin Foundation supported four important funds at UNC Rex. The Patient Assistance Fund provides support to patients with high risk of recurrence. Examples of expenditures from this fund include supplemental nutrition, prescriptions, home health support, transportation for doctor appointments and other day-to-day expenses faced by patients with financial hardship. The Food Pantry Fund supports families who are struggling with access to healthy foods. The Heart & Vascular Fund supports important research at Rex so that physicians such as Dr. Lee Jobe can continue to offer the best patient care with the latest options in cardiovascular medicine. And the Excellence Fund is a critical fund for the president of Rex Hospital. This fund allows the president to direct funds to the most critical areas within Rex.
