Beyond the sculptures in the current exhibit at the Dublin Arts Council entitled “HATRED DOESN’T WORK” of local sculptor Alfred Tibor, 95, who is a Holocaust and Russian POW survivor adjunct programming has been added to punctuate this powerful message. Workshops for K-12 students will focus on art creation as a means to express emotions in response to BULLYING The National Crime Prevention Council reports that 90% of 4th-8th graders have been bullied. These workshops will promote reflection on tolerance and acceptance as well as provide an outlet for expression of emotion. Students visiting Dublin Arts will create a mosaic, producing small self-portraits using color theory to categorize emotions. In a cultural climate that still struggles with offering tolerance and respect to others, this project serves as an educational opportunity to facilitate reflection and learning. Students will also be given a docent-led gallery tour that will allow them to engage with the Mr. Tibor’s work. DO GO SEE MR. TIBOR’S SCULPTURES, AS INDEED HE IS A NATIONAL TREASURE who despite the atrocities he has faced, he has emerged as a positive, gentle soul with the desire to spread his message: “HATRED DOESN’T WORK.”
