Puffin Foundation West has given a Grant to Central Community House’s (CCH) Transit Arts program which transports young people to a place of discovery and a world of different opportunities. Through this program young people at Columbus Ohio’s various Settlement Houses are able to work with some of Columbus’ most talented and generous artists. In this Grant, PFW has afforded CCH with funds to buy some digital cameras to take photographs of “Kids in Nature” or pictures depicting “My Ohio” which will be submitted to the Ohio Envirnonmental Council’s 4th Annual Photo Contest! PFW is excitied to make this introduction between these two important groups and after all…these children will inherit this earth!

The photos must contain some element of nature in them, i.e. the photo can be of buildings and Ohio’s built environment, but it must also include some element of Ohio’s natural state as well. We think that Transit Arts Kids will have many oportunities to use these cameras this summer to document numerous community garden celebratons, a local celebration in the African Village Festival by the Kwanza Playground (a very early project that The Puffin Foundation gave a grant to) and just what is going on in their own backyards. They will also learn about the new digital technologiy and photography skills as they adjust the camera settings, and learn how to download their images onto disks and onto the internet. These Cameras will for many years now be part of the Transit Arts Programming. Thanks to Ms. Jackie Calderone, Ms. Lis Hughes-Weaver and Puffin West’s best friend, Mr. Jim Arter.
