THE REFRESH COLLECTIVE in Cleveland www.freshcamp.org developed a new program The DROP THE LEAD SUMMIT is a youth arts and empowerment organization that will work with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District to identify 10 high schools on the East Side of Cleveland and in the inner-ring suburb to be part of this educational Summit event which will engage public high school participants in interactive workshops on the issues of lead poisoning and violence. Lead paint is still a hidden problem in minority communities, which too are faced with extreme gun violence. Refresh Collective led by Doc Harrill, a Hip-Hop Producer turned Teach and Youth Cultivator, has worked with community partners to speak to hundreds of students and has helped these students produce and perform music related to these very serious issues that they are confronting every day in their young lives. The mornings of these Summits will first engage and educate the participants and inspire them to put together their own mini musical presentations. A food security meal of fresh organic food will be served and then the afternoon portion will be comprised of student presentations of their morning’s work. There will also be a grand finale presentation of all the aforementioned work compiled over the year.
