Nothing says WELCOME more than a home cooked meal! We met Wave Pool, a 501(c)(3) last year, and we were glad to see their 2018 application WHAT FEEDS US when it arrived. Their 2018 project looks at hospitality through the lens of immigrants and the Muslim culture, specifically during Ramadan. (Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, and is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting (Sawm) to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to Muhammad according to Islamic belief.)*
Wave Pool created THE WELCOME PROJECT ,
which in this instance will give us all a peak into the kitchens of people in the Muslim community as they prepare the foods that are central to this event. You will be taken into the kitchens via video so that all will have the opportunity to learn about this most important part of the Muslim culture as these cooks share stories of the symbolism of the dishes being prepared, the ingredients and the cultural relevance.
