The Interfaith Association of Central Ohio (IACO) WWW.IACO.ORGhas been committed to protecting religious freedom and encouraging inter religious relationship building for more than 30 years. As our country and community have increased in diversity we have worked to bring people of different faith communities together to learn about one another, to share from their religious traditions and to find the common areas from which we can build a stronger community. We have demonstrated that our diverse religious beliefs are a strength for our community and brings us together, rather than driving us apart.
THERE IS AN ABUNDANCE OF INCIVILITY, HOSTILITY AND POLARIZATION IN OUR COMMUNITY, OUR COUNTY AND THE WORLD. IACO WILL HOST THREE SPECIFIC CENTRAL OHIO EVENTS TO EXPLORE WAYS TO ADDRESS THIS NEGATIVITY FROM THE INTERFAITH PERSPECTIVE. “NONES”* ARE ALSO INVITED. Their annual Main Event luncheon is being held on August 18th. The focus is a natural connection to the reverence for life. Each of the nine communities will be requested to prepare a presentation based on the reverence of life as a support for civility. The Second activity PFW is supporting is “Exploring Civil as Interfaith Work” and finally the IACO’s Annual prayer gathering will be held as usual in December. This is a Potluck gathering and will be held at the Peace Lutheran Church in Gahanna.
*Nones are a name for people who answer “none” when asked with what religious group they most identify or to which they belong. Nones are a growing segment of the US religious landscape but there are some misconceptions about how they practice and what might count as “spirituality” or “religion.” The nine religions in the IACO are:
Bahá’í Buddhism Christianity Hindu Islam Jain Judaism Sikh Unitarian Universalist
