This day carries a lot of weight. On one side there are organizations like AFS who have the honor and opportunity to share the beautiful possibility of what should be “the norm”, a kind and safe life for farmed animals. Simultaneously, however, today is a day where we need to reflect on and share the plight of the billions of deserving and precious non-human lives around the world who won’t get to rest peacefully tonight, nor know the loving touch of a human in their lives.
The juxtaposition of the emotions, memories, and stories that come with this day are profound. They can be uplifting and give hope, while also leading us to feel defeated and like we have an impossible task ahead.
The weight, albeit heavy, is one that many of us have assigned ourselves to carry. Our deep love of animals compels us to act, to love, and to be unwavering in our defense of them. As animal lovers in a cruel world we don’t often have the space, capacity, nor energy to celebrate the small wins or the lives of those who are safe.
To help shine some light into the darkness and bring beauty into an otherwise daunting world we love to welcome guests to visit AFS. Through this we hope to fill your cup, give you energy, connect you with the animals whose lives are at peace, and hopefully inspire you to create change that helps others. Together we can change the world, one animal at a time.
