The Dayton Art Institute from October 15th-January , 2017 will feature an exhibition of contemporary large-scale photographs by Edward Burtynsky and Robert Mosse entitled Ravaged Sublime. Viewers will be confronted with images of the impact humans have had that have ravaged the land. The show will draw attention to contemporary environmental and political issues, and will invite the visitors to join in a conversation about global sustainability. Mr. Burtynsky presents an ominous view of scars to the land created by human expansion. His mastery draws viewers toward his work and causes them so sink into much deeper contemplations of the environmental realities they are hanging before them. Richard Mosse’s work of the Democratic Republic of Congo, which is also large and of breathtaking imagery will engross viewers with its surreal color palette into the landscapes of a country and its conflict zones. On November 17th the DAI will present an informal panel with audience participation.
