Allison (Aly) Amidei is an educator an theatrical costume designer at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She has been awarded a grant to Explore Accessible Costuming to actors with Disabilities. Disabilities are intersectional: affecting all races, ethnicities, ages, genders and religions. PFW never knew that 15% of the world’s population experience some sort of disability. Accessibility needs for audiences have been addressed but costume design is a new initiative that is important as understanding the performers needs so that they can communicated freely with the audience is needed to address these obstacles to inclusion. Ms. Amidei will engage herself in a hypothetical n project using her skills in design and her technical experiences to create a series of four costumes for performers with a range of physical and mobility disabilities that will be actors in the play A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Bravo!
