PUFFIN West has been making new friends in all the States that include and are contiguous to our home away from home, Raleigh, North Carolina. We are snow-birding Puffins now. We received a wonderful application and learned about COLOUR OF MUSIC (COMF) WHOSE PRIMARY GOAL IS TO SUPPORT BLACK CLASSICAL MUSICIANS AND BLACK COMPOSERS, WHILE PROVIDING AUDIENCES WITH AN EXCELLENT PERFORMING ARTISTS’ EXPERIENCE AND GROWING THEIR AWARENESS OF WORKS BY BLACK COMPOSERS. COMF was created for all people to celebrate the accomplishments of a marginalized group in the classical world. COMF resonates strongly with PFW’s mission to “reach across biases and create dialogues that are peaceably transforming.” Given the spikes in COVID-19 cases across the country, COMF made the decision to have an audience-less festival. They forged partnerships with local and national public broadcasting stations. As with so many of our grantees who have successfully transitioned to virtual platforms,’ we are certain that their virtual audience will be larger than their SRO in concert halls attended festivals.
