PFW has been working with Andrea Hart for a number of years. Her short film DARK IS A DIFFERENT BEAST opened the Columbus International Film Festival in 2015.
“dark is a different beast” started as an experiment writing scenes based around a physical structure or sculpture. In 2012 I received a starter grant from the Puffin Foundation West and created the short film version of “ddb.” Scenes from the play have been workshopped and performed at the Great Plains Theatre Conference.

Her dream had been to produce this piece as a play and we are so pleased to tell you that it will have its world premier in San Francisco November 4th-19th http://www.andrealhart.org/dark-is-a-different-beast1.html at the Light Rail Studios. http://darkdifferentbeast.brownpapertickets.com It’s a script Ms. Hart has been working on for several years and we congratulate her for being able to bring the full production to the public as part of her involvement with 6NewPlays (6NewPlays.com), a producing collective of playwrights she cofounded in San Francisco.
Synopsis: In a post-catastrophe wasteland, a woman and a bonfire fall in love. “dark is a different beast” explores the personal cost of war and how we seek to heal those wounds in the midst of a constant media drumbeat of fear and anxiety. What do you choose when every choice is extreme?
