DESPITE WUHAN THERE WAS AN AFTER STONEWALL @ CMA

  • Art after Stonewall: 1969 – 1989 premiered in New York City across two venues at the Grey Art Gallery at New York University and the Leslie Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art (April 19 – June 21, 2019); the second venue was in Miami, Florida at the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum (October 19, 2019 – January 6, 2020).
  • –  The third and final venue of the exhibition was Columbus Museum of Art (Columbus, Ohio) where the exhibition originally opened on Thursday, March 5, 2020. However, just 11 days later, on March 14, the Museum was shut down in line with a mandate from the Ohio governor due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the exhibition was shuttered. Curatorial staff immediately contacted lenders to the exhibition and we were thrilled that every single lender agreed to extend their loans. The Museum ultimately was able to keep the exhibition intact for an additional 14 weeks following our June 23 public reopening. The final run date for the exhibition was then June 23 to October 4, 2020.• Actual number of participants and number of attendees, audience, viewers, etc.

– At the Columbus Museum of Art, and despite reduced capacity throughout the remainder of the exhibition, we had steady attendance with just under 19,000 touring. For the final weeks, CMA took advantage of beautiful weather and hosted six weeks of extended hours for Thursdays in the Garden featuring LGBTQ+ artists and music to attract audiences. On October 2 for closing weekend, we were especially thrilled to host the legendary Nina West for an intimate cabaret show in the Museum garden for a sold out event.
