The FACES OF FRANKLINTON will for a very long time remind the commercial developers and wealthy investors who will not only “gentrify” but totally build-up one of Columbus’ first outposts with high-rise condominiums and homogenized up-scale developments in the very near future that there also is a community of lower income people who have called Franklinton their home for centuries. This is a community mural project in the most genuine sense of the word “community”. Residents will be creating their own likenesses on weather-resistant 12″x12″ boards that will then be assembled into one beautiful mosaic/mural that will hang on the front of Sign House at 735 Sullivant Avenue. This project is a group portrait of the real Franklinton and its people! It will give them some ownership over the culture in their neighborhood. We agree that ART IS a basic need and should be available to all. The Faces of Franklinton project helps to promote the less-often heard narrative of the “common” people. This project is being spearheaded by art activist and fine artist, Mona Gazala.
