Puffin Foundation West, Ltd. (PFW) is pleased to help fund the translation and theatrical presentation of the Lakota “Trickster Tale” Iktomi’s Raccoon Hat. This tale has been adopted from ancestral Lakota (“Sioux”) storytelling tradition and adopted for the stage. This dramatization will be presented at the Standing Rock High School on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation on June 21 in North Dakota. The Lakota Language Consortium’s commitment to the salvation and long-term revitalization of the Lakota language is an important Mission and we applaud them for seeing that future generations will want to know and need to know about their strong cultural heritage and the values of their ancestral people including, patience, compassion, wisdom and generosity. This may also be the first time a play has been written to be performed entirely in Lokota, with careful attention being given to cultural values and relationship traditions.
