The Cleveland Public Theatre plan for 2021-22 edition of the Y-Haven Theatre Project in line with COVID-19 safety precautions continues. After much collaboration with the staff and leadership at Y-Haven, plans to launch this year’s Y-Haven Theatre Project will begin in August 2021. While this year’s program will take a different form, we are eager to build on past successes as we adapt the Y-Haven Theatre Project in a safe and impactful way.
This year, the virtual program will comprise three five-week sessions running consecutively with 7- 9 participants in each session. Our decision to form smaller groups is based on best practices learned from working with our students via Zoom since March. The pilot session will launch in January: a workshop with the men of Y-Haven. Then based on the workshop, counselors with Y- Haven will determine the final participant list. On January 18, the first five-week session will begin with a group of 7-9 participants. Our Executive Artistic Director Raymond Bobgan will lead the program and will recruit other expert teaching artists to the project’s team. The first session will culminate in an original performance presented over Zoom, followed by a post-show talkback between participants and audience members. The next two sessions will follow the same pattern, beginning in February 2021. At the conclusion of the third session in Spring 2021, we will host a special performance night via Zoom and air all three original performances. A group discussion with all the participants will follow the event.
While this is a challenging time of uncertainty and constant adjustment, CPT remains committed to bringing life-changing education programming to the men of Y-Haven as we have for over 20 years. PFW has been a long-time supporter of this important, life-changing and dramatic program. www.cptonline.org
