OAAE MOVES TRANSIT ARTS

The Ohio Alliance for Arts Education has brought a comprehensive network of free, educational arts-based opprotunities through its programming entitled ART IN THE HOUSE to the Columbus Metropolitan for years. They have partnered with TRANSIT ARTS to serve youths aged 5-21 who attend out-of-school hour programs at the Settlement Houses in town. These programs include regularly scheduled arts education workshops, public exhibitions and performance.s They also have built into the program paid apprenticeships and internships for outstanding teens and young adults. Almost 500 youths participated in this program in 2014. DANCE IN THE HOUSE will be started this year at one of the Settlement Houses. We know that when we are able to engage young people in the arts that they can develop a sense of personal responsibility, that they can develop skills in creative constructive action and that the creation of art boosts self-esteem and confidence.
