Ohio’s annual Arts Day provides an opportunity for students to discover their own voice by sharing their experiences and dreams for the arts and arts education in their lives, schools and communities with Ohio’s elected officials. A Grant has been given to the Students Advocates Program by Puffin Foundation West to give this opportunity to 75 High School Students from around the State who have been collaborating with their art, government, science and math teaches to learn and discuss what role government has in making decisions about funding the arts in their communities. Through this program these students’ awareness about the legislative process is raised as it empowers these future voters to think about how their participation in the process can effect policy making. This engagement will help them formulate ideas and messages they wish to relate to their legislators. All of this is on May 9th at the Capitol Building in Columbus, OH.
