Philosophy of Harmonious Society
The Beauty of Beijing Opera has brought to the greater metropolitan area of Washington DC through classic opera performances the philosophy of Confucius. Through workshops and cultural event programs in schools and small local theatres this local opera company has been able to bring 5000 years of Chinese culture to their community using opera as the active vehicle of promoting Confucius philosophy. The operas explore Chinese history, classic literature and folklore through its scripts and acting style.
The 10 core words of Confucius philosophy are:
GENTLE, KIND, RESPECTFUL, SIMPLE, FORGIENESS, INTELLIGENT, CREDITWORTHY, DISCIPLINARY, BRAVE AND BENEVOLENT. THE BEIJING OPERA features traditional Chinese costumes and music. In 2010 art form known as Beijing Opera was declared to be an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO and we thank the DC Beauty of Beijing Opera group for sharing this treasure here in the U.S.
