Kayla Rothman-Zecher will create a series of paintings and collages to explore the intersections of motherhood, privilege, gender-based-violence, freedom and CHOICE. She asks: Does every woman have a choice when she is impregnated by rape or when she is beaten while pregnant and loses her unborn fetus? Has the choice been taken away from her? Should we all have the right to raise our children in safety? Have women lost their choice when trapped in abusive circumstances, or are severely limited by poverty or incarcerated? Kayla Rothman-Zecher wants to make women’s voices heard about these incredible personal topics on which their voices are often silenced. We have given her an encouragement grant to help her do so.
