63% of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) have been bullied at some point in their lives. The fact is students with disabilities are much more likely to be bullied than their non-disabled peers. This is a civil rights and social justice issue Bridgeway Academy’s students will make a film in partnership with a professional filmmaker. Students will begin by writing their own personal narratives about bullying. These narratives will provide rich content for the film. Students will be engaged in front of and behind the cameras so that everyone is involved. The film will help identify:
What is bullying? Have I ever been bullied? Have I ever been a bully?
What does self-advocacy mean? What can I do to advocate for myself if I experience bullying?
What resources are available to help me/help my family if bullying occurs. The working film of the film is MISINTERPRETATION.
