PFW has long provided grant to support to The Backbone Campaign-www.backbonecampaign.org who are activist artist extraordinaire headquartered in Vashon WA.. We again support them in the action that most ecological groups have come together on sHell No! Arctic drilling will inevitably lead to an ecological disaster, as well as damn us with irreversible climate chaos. We the People of Puget Sound say “sHell No!” to the Port of Seattle granting Shell Oil use of our public lands and the traditional lands of the Duwamish as a staging ground for Ecotrocity.
Commissioner Bill Bryant laughed off the outrage of Seattleites. Bryant smugly made light of people acting out of moral clarity to disrupt Shell’s audacious arctic drilling scheme with their bodies and their kayaks. Well, we take that as a challenge. This moment is an opportunity for people from across this region to unite against so-called “leaders” who act as if everything is up for sale.
A massive nonviolent presence on the water, fueled by both our love for this beautiful place AND our commitment to leaving future generations a livable, thriving planet could be strong enough to upset Shell’s plans and help us all shift course. Similar to 1999 arrogance and foolishness is inadvertently mustering the will of “We the People,” this time it’s on the water as well, in the form of a people’s fleet, and potentially a flotilla of unprecedented magnitude.
Together, we can do something historic on this Salish Sea. If you don’t think a small thing can make a big difference, then you’ve never been stuck inside of a tent with a mosquito. This is your opportunity to become part of the Mosquito Fleet, a nonviolent, on water action force for good, “Swarming against global warming.”
Opportunity favors the prepared so that what we are going to do. The growing coalition is partnering with Alki Kayak Tours to provide this uprising with access to safety and skills trainings, as well as some creative tactics and opportunities to engage in on water actions.
