Beginning on September 24 through November 8 the collaborative works of four professional photographers who are being paired with four local individuals with Down syndrome will be exhibited at the Dublin Arts Council’s show Shifting Perspective: My Perspective. These works will capture positive imagery in celebration of acceptance, joy and wonder of what it is like to be human and living with Down syndrome. These photographic works will challenge conventional attitudes and perceptions of identity and individuality. Through the medium of photography, this exhibition will focus on the everyday life experiences of individuals living with Down syndrome, providing a sensitive exploration of diversity in all of its permutations. Award-winning British photographer and father of a daughter with Down syndrome, Richard Bailey has been creating images that have been exhibited all over the globe of people living with Down syndrome since 2003 and, he was at the Dublin Arts Council last year. School and group visits will be run in collaboration with school guidance counselors and art teachers. The Dublin Arts Council will plan, facilitate and host community workshops during this exhibition as well. More information: www.dublinarts.org
