The Puffin Foundation, Ltd. is pleased to announce its Special Grant of $10,500 to the Central Community House.
This inner city Settlement House lost vital funding owing the 2008-09 market decline, which negatively affected so many vital services that rely upon charitable giving. Central Community House was established in 1936 and serves inner city children living in zip code 43205. It had been able to care for approximately 60-70 children each summer, but owing to the recession/depression, governmental programming cuts and the loss of funding, the entire summer program is in jeopardy. This grant will also be used to help fund Community’s Promise Afterschool Program this fall. This program provides a safe and enriching environment and promotes academic success and empowers children to develop a love of learning.
This is the largest Special Grant that The Puffin Foundation, Ltd. has made in Columbus. Previously, Puffin gave a Special Grant to help erect the radio tower to allow Columbus Community Radio Foundation to operate 102.1 FM and 98.3 FM which has brought a new genre of radio station to our metropolitan area encompassing music/arts, life-style, educational and public affairs, local neighborhood, national and international news, including Democracy Now!
The Puffin Foundation has been continuing the dialogue between art and the lives of ordinary people locally since 1986 and has supported over 100 local projects by artists whose socially-relevant works were judged to be outside established norms. In 2007, Puffin was instrumental in bringing the witness project Eyes Wide Open to the State House Lawns. Over 2498 pairs of combat boots were a silent monument to our fallen U.S. military personnel.
Puffin Ohio/Midwest is under the Directorship of downtown loft resident, Java Kitrick.
