The Crossing Borders Exhibit comprises the work of 34 artists who have used their craft to provide an emotional journey from one canvas to the next of the strength, hardships and courage of refugees across the world on arduous journeys often fleeing the horrors of terrorism, war, persecution and discrimination. More than half of the displaced are children. The exhibit was organized by Pataskala, OH native Laurie VanBalen, a visual artist and founder/director of Art Soup Studio, which provides creative workshops and programs for schools, libraries and community centers. Crossing Borders was designed to be seen in conjunction with a 50 minute documentary film by Doug Swift entitled “Breathe Free“. His film introduces the viewers to real people who have been forced from their homes and allows us to hear their real stories of getting to America. PFW has provided a grant to help this project travel to many other cities and universities in 2018.
