PFW has provided a small grant to the Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra’s (NOYO) summer camp program. Students interested in pursuing music in Lorain County ,as with many other counties, have found that funding to all musical opportunities to all students regardless of their socioeconomic backgrounds is limited. In Lorain County and across northeast Ohio finding cuts in public schools have made instrumental music instruction less accessible. These cuts have forced schools to reduce, restructure and in some case eliminate their band and orchestra programs. NOYO enjoys a close relationship with Oberlin Conservatory.
Summer Symphony students will:
- Rehearse and perform exciting classical and popular string orchestra repertoire.
- Receive daily one-hour coaching from an expert staff of string teachers.
- Participate in workshops exploring music theory, ear training, and playing techniques.
- Improve technical and ensemble skills.
