Falcon Theatre (www.falcontheatre.net) in Newport Kentucky had scheduled The Agitators, a riveting story about the friendship that persisted through the years between abolitionist Frederick Douglass and suffragist Susan B. Anthony as both fought tirelessly for the rights of others. The play struggles with the question “Do you believe there can be a country for all?”
“Abolitionist leader Frederick Douglass was born into slavery sometime around 1818 in Talbot County, Maryland. He became one of the most famous intellectuals of his time, advising presidents and lecturing to thousands on a range of causes, including women’s rights and Irish home rule.
Susan B. Anthony was an American social reformer and women’s rights activist who played a pivotal role in the women’s suffrage movement. Born into a Quaker family committed to social equality, she collected anti-slavery petitions at the age of 17.” (Wikipedia)
The Falcon Theatre’s play relates events of great historical as it moves through the years when Douglass was fighting for emancipation of slaves and Anthony was advocating equally as strongly for the right of women to vote.
