Kristen Smiarowski’s dance projects investigate the relationship between performance and cultural memory. Ms. Smiarowski is part of a worldwide group of committed scholars, educators and artists all working to help us understand a devastating history, and to find meaning and reparation in the incomprehensible reality of the Holocaust. Artist are able to communicate through emotional channels the fractured nature of Jewish identity and human dignity in the shadow of the Holocaust. A grant was given for part of an evolving body of work known as The Key Game Project. This piece Sleep, Staring, Well features dance performances, live music, soundscapes, video installations, and art objects. Audiences are immersed in an interactive space that engages many senses, inviting them to think and feel in the same moment.
