Zimmer Children’s Museum in Los Angeles has a program called youTHink which is based on arts- based programing. Through a large range of artistic media, youth identify issues of concern and engage in discussion and activism such as food justice, racial inequalities, the “school to prison” pipeline, discrimination, race, sexual orientation, environmental protection, poverty, gender issues, racial profiling and bullying among others. The participants in youTHink targets have very limited resources and lack access to experiences and opportunities beyond their own schools and neighborhoods. Yet these same youths are frequently overexposed to complex societal problems. youTHink help these participants navigate and confront these challenges and provides them with the tools and encouragement they need to make a difference in their lives and to influence social change. Zimmer will work with 15 youth in a new neighborhood initiative that will culminate in the production of an artistic work, a community celebration and dialogue and will be held at the public libraries in South Central, East Los Angeles and Huntington Park. https://www.zimmermuseum.org/pdfs/youTHink_About.pdf
