Youth Beat Radio believes that youth can make a difference for themselves and for their community through their actions and words! Hence their slogan: “Voice to empower!”. Youth Beat broadcasts shows influenced, hosted or inspired by youth and who aim to inspire their listeners to go out and make a difference. And, most refreshingly, Youth Beat is a zero advertisement show that will broadcast no political or partisan views. Isn’t that lovely?
Youth Beat airs on Mondays at 7:30 pm on WCRS 98.3 FM and on Tuesdays at 5:30 pm on WGRN 94.1 FM. Youth Beat is proud to air on Columbus community radio. The goals are to: 1) Inform others about youth activities to improve schools, neighborhood, communities and the environment; 2) Address issues of interest to youth; 3) Teach other youth how to get involved in their schools, neighborhoods, and communities 4) Find creative solutions to challenging problems and in doing so using the platform of these radio talk shows to inspire them to get involved to make a difference. The shows feature activities; perspective and contributions of youths aged 14-21 and also includes content from community and organizational leaders of all ages. The show is under the direction of Kristi Lekies, Ph.D., and Associate Professor in the School of Environment and Natural Resources at The Ohio State University. PFW has worked with the program for years, almost since its inception in 2009. What is remarkable is that it is produced by youth from Central Ohio high schools, universities, and local organizations. Several hundred youths have been interviewed over these years, have contributed content, attended radio and have had production training. youthbeat@osu.edu
