Puffin Foundation West’s Friends do such GREAT WORK! A Grant to help fund the first-of-its-kind K-12 LGBT curriculum for the United States is being undertaken by the Stonewall National Museum and Archives. The President of the Stonewall, Mr. Bryan Knicely, first germinated this idea in 2011 and by 2014, it is hoped that the curriculum will be introduced in lead districts. A Symposium will be held in Ft. Lauderdale Feb. 20-22, and already 12 districts as well as education-related organizations have registered. Stonewall, et. al. will be working to build a program that will educate and transform community ideas about LBGT students and their families. This in turn will help promote a safe educational environment for all students – a true American value. Ignorance, damaging stereotypes and falsehoods have led to escalating incidences of BULLYING and violence. Homelessness, suicides, school failure and isolation are sadly constant companions for LGBT youth. PFW is very supportive of Stonewall’s efforts and believes that by helping create a curriculum which gives educators, administrators, students and their families information, resources, and tools to make the educational experience more inclusive, enriches everyone. This project embodies many ideas that help us work towards a positive planet. www.stonewallnationalmuseum.org
