Radio Station WCRS (heard on 102.1 and 98.3) is a valuable community asset and is now licensed to The Neighborhood Network. The Puffin Foundation has granted WCRS every year since its founding as a community station in 2008. WCRS is the only station to bring Amy Goodman’s DEMOCRACY NOW! to the local airwaves. The commitment and leadership of the almost all volunteer staff need to be commended and we call out the work done by Marilyn Welker, the Director extraordinaire of Simply Living, and Eugene Beer the Chief Engineer of WCRS and Program Director of Conscious Voices which, too, has received Puffin Foundation grants for this original programming. To all of those special friends of WCRS who have worked to see this community service strive you are to be commended as it has been an incredibly complicated journey and has taken, in Marilyn’s words “tenacity, chutzpah and perseverance”. In these times a community radio is sorely needed, as it is a voice created by the people.
