AUSTIN FARMS SANCTUARY

IT TAKES A FAMILY that is what is said. The family (and they have a toddler now) that saves all manner of animals from chickens to horses to cows and even that pig understands that all living things matter.  They were told about this pig that had been tied to a tree by its foot and left to die.

PFW found them on-line in 2023 and has supported them.  You can do that as well.  In this world sometimes the littlest things matter.

Austin Farm Sanctuary – Puffin Foundation 2024 Gran Application
Project Description – These funds will be used to support the annual medical and feed costs to care for
our 220 full-time residents at Austin Farm Sanctuary. Additionally, these funds will be used to support
urgent rescue situations and medical emergencies where other methods of fundraising are insufficient rooom unavailable.
Project Goals – Our impact on our community goes beyond the 1,000s of animals that will call Austin Farm Sanctuary home over the years. We are committed to creating and maintaining a place where farmed animals are loved, known individually, and people are able to witness the quality of their lives both in person and virtually. Having a strong health program, like this grant supports, is critical in providing our residents a quality life, and supporters a view of what could and should be afforded to these animals.
Biography – 2016
In September of 2016 we purchase our first home together in South Austin. A week after moving in we welcome 2 rescued goats, Bertha and Cookie, a mother/daughter pair into the family.
2017
Time to shake things up! Doya hte Pig joins the family at the beginning of the year and changes the game. Doya joining the family inspires the dream of Austin Farm Sanctuary. Shortly after, we are approved as an official 501c3 Non-Profit under the name “Fuller-Wigg Farms Animals Sanctuary”. The ball is rolling, as they say, and we add a number of feathered, hooved and furry friends to the ever-growing family.
2018
Moving on up, to the far East Side, Cedar Creek X.T Needless to say, that 1/2 acre in South Austin was starting to get pretty full, so we moved a little outside of town to get more land. With more land means new residents and lives to save. At the end of the year we hosted our first volunteer day with our first supporters here central Texas volleyball community.
2019
Starting off the year with a bang! Bo Diddley and Reba are rescued in January and a few weeks later
Reba gives birth to Valentine (on Valentine’s Day). Valentine becomes the first baby of the sanctuary. We have our first “on-camera” experiences and appear on the show “1stLookTV” on NBC and “Baby Hers”,
an independent documentary exposing the dairy industry.
2020
Go big or go home, right? In January we make the road trip over to Arkansas to rescue Jessie,
Sydney and Dexter. A TV crew from CBS All Access joins us for the adventure as they film us for a series named “That Animal Rescue Show”. In March, the pandemic turns 2020 upside down, but we remain determined to flourish during this time and adapt to this new situation. Growing our online presence brings su many
2021
Rescuing a bunch of babies, chasing our dreams, and growing our community. 2021 had a very busy start
to the year! Most notably we purchased 40 Acres of land in June to begin building the new AFS and our residents’ forever home.
2022
The build-out of our new home took about a year to complete. With over 100k ft of fencing.
water/electric lines, etc. this infrastructure project was something else. When it was completed in March 2022 all of the residents moved to the new land and made this officially our home. The sanctuary began
to flourish even further. At the end of the year, we build the most important building on our property, an acare center,
2023
In 2023 we grew tremendously in the number of animals we cared for, our volunteers, and our
community of supporters. This year was not without its trials, however. The summer of 2023 was one of the most brutal on record, and that strained our team, facilities, and residents. This did not hinder the impact we were able to have nor our ability to execute our missions as we welcomed many people to the sanctuary, grew our reach virtually, and saved many animals.
Budget – PFW’s grant to Austin Farm Sanctuary  of $10,000 in 2023 and the two subsequent grants in 2024  totaling $35,000 support our Health and Wellness programming. These funds go to a variety of specific needs to support our residents on a daily basis and in emergency situations. For example, one of our oldest pig residents (Mrs. Pigey) was diagnosed with skin cancer last year. She has begun seeing the vet every 3weeks to have sites treated.
