Under the leadership and excellence of Dancer Aminata Mane an Adult and Children’s Drum and Dance Conference will be held Friday June 3-Sunday June 5th. The conference culminates in a performance that has received Puffin West support for many years. This conference provides a forum through which diverse youth, communities and organizations link together in a collective effort to present, educate and preserve Folkloric Dances of the African Diaspora. This year the dance and drum conference will pay tribute to mentors who have played an important role in promoting the preservation of Folkloric dance and drumming. The program will include a collaborative piece by Youssouf Koumbassa an artist from Guinea West Africa. All are welcome top take part in the conference which is also dedicated to the promoting the arts as a healing and preventative tool for chronic diseases such as obesity and diabetes. The process of movement therapy is often helpful in resolving inner conflicts and promoting inner peace. All participants will enjoy a fun-filled weekend which places an emphasis on educating young and old, teaching the importance of commitment and all will find themselves contributing to an extraordinary tradition for Folkloric Dance and Drumming.
