On April 13th @ 7:00 pm the King Arts Complex (KAC) will feature the unique compositions which incorporate jazz, Afro-Cuban traditions, and African sonorities of Imani Winds. More than North America’s premier wind quintet, Imani Winds has established itself as one of the most successful chamber music ensembles in the United States. Since 1997, the Grammy nominated quintet has taken a unique path, carving out a distinct presence in the classical music world with its dynamic playing, culturally poignant programming, adventurous collaborations, and inspirational outreach programs. With two member composers and a deep commitment to commissioning new work, the group is enriching the traditional wind quintet repertoire while meaningfully bridging European, American, African and Latin American traditions. Columbus’ own youth group  Urban Strings is the opening act for an evening of classical music and,  Urban Strings will have the unique opportunity to perform a  piece with Imani Winds which is considered to be the busiest wind quintet in the United States.  In fact Puffin West is a sponsor the week before of their concert with Cutting Edge at the Symphony Space in Manhattan a project of grant awardee, Victoria Bond.
