ARTISTS IN THE CLASSROOM GETS AN A+

A GREAT BIG THANK YOU for providing our school, through your Puffin Grant, with three excellent live art performers.  We just had the last performance today. The students and staff are so appreciative of these experiences.  The children have been able to see that hard work will take them a long way to meeting their goals and help their dreams come true.  Many of the artists have a question and answer period following their performances and students many times want to know how they became an artist.  They tell the students it all begins with an interest, and then you need creativity, hard work and persistence.  Hearing this from other than their teachers makes a big impression on them.  As an example the artist we had today was always interested in US History.  As he got older and graduated first from high school then college, he figured out a way to use his interest.  He performs all over using, dance, mime and songs to teach children about US History.  We had a juggler who used his talents to teach children about reusing and recycling.  Our African American storyteller shared his love for reading and telling stories.  It was amazing how these children talked with one another about their ideas after seeing a performance and then used these experiences they had to write and express themselves in discussions using the performances as examples.  As I have expressed before these performances the children see at school are the only exposure the majority of them have to this variety of art.Our staff whole heartedly thanks you for your generosity as all types of art enhance the learning experiences of our children!
