BOYS AND BUDS

“I have gained a special perspective in regard to acceptance because of my unique family structure. Raising two children with my male counterpart has awarded me the opportunity to revisit my childhood, acknowledge my evolving identity, and determine what role I ultimately play in society. In each image, I strive to create visual and physical harmony through the narrative and form. The personal memories that I incorporate directly relate to family, relationships, children, and parenting. I attempt to raise questions about love, insecurities, social injustices, and values in contemporary society.”  Professor Rinehart is completing a serious of artists book that gently highlight the universal humanity shared buy heterosexual and non-heterosexual parents and families.  WWW.BENRINEHART.COM.  The Boys and Buds commemorates a time in history where being an openly gay man, father and parent wasn’t always accepted.  Being visible serves as an educational tool while simultaneously letting other LBGTQ community members know that they are not alone.
