Very late night on June 28th, 1969 in the West Village at the Stonewall Inn, a “GAY” night club, the NYC police moved in arresting patrons and personnel alike which was the beginning of six days of rioting ..this event has been called the catalyst of the Gay Right Movement in  America.  This “club” was a BYOB and was said to be ” owned and protected” by the Genovese Family which had arrangement with the police to look the other way. But on June 28th the police raided with warrants and 13 people were arrested.  The Bar was a place of for  runaways,  homeless gay youth,  and welcomed drag queens- at that time cross- dressing was not legal in NY. It is said that a lesbian urged the neighborhood crowd to act as she was being arrest and it galvanized into over a thousand people in the street..
